In the vast wilderness of the Katahdin region, there are numerous primitive camping sites seldom used by the general public. There are millions of acres open to the public and Baxter State Park has over 200,000 of them.

In order to camp in some of the primitive sites and get away from other people, you will have to hike, backpack or canoe. These trips are for the hardy and adventurous.
