We, as Maine Pork Producers, choose to produce
quality pork products for consumers using ethical production
practices while being sustainable environmental stewards of the
land.”
We, as pork producers, owe it to the future of
our industry to participate in the Pork Checkoff program. Pork
Checkoff funds allow us to promote, advertise, and market pork
products within the State of Maine. We provide education to
consumers (pig farmers are consumers too!) on pork safety,
public health, and swine health.
The “Pork Be Inspired” campaign, backed by pork
Checkoff dollars, has grown US pork consumption from 29% of all
households in 2011 to 35% in 2012. Let’s promote and reposition
Maine pork to maintain our share of that growth and to keep
those monies local. We also promote the use of the “We Care”
initiative. This focuses upon the ethical principles that
promote animal care, environment, food safety, health and
community.
Pork producers can join the “We Care” initiative
by participating in Pork Quality Assurance (PQA+) training and
having their farm evaluated by a PQA+ site specialist.
